Congratulations!!! Finally you are a father. It is just an amazing experience to hold your offspring for the first time. Part of your gene, part of your DNA. Miracle of nature.
From now on you need to wake up, sleep, eat, work, talk, watch movies, read books, travel, entertain not based on your need but aligned to your child’s need.
You might stay in hospital for a day or two if everything is okay. Then you will take your baby home.
Make sure that you follow all the instructions how to use car seat, pram etc.
First couple of months, as a Dad, you cannot do much. The child is mostly dependent on the Mother for its survival. All the nourishment, care is given by the Mother.
Your job as a Dad and husband is to support your wife to support the child.
Keep track of all the vaccinations. Doctor visits etc.
As a new Dad and also for you wife as new Mom it is very helpful if you have some experience help. Because, the baby is so tiny and you don’t know what you are doing.
As the Mom nourishes the child, it is very important that the Mom eats good healthy food as well.
First two months, pretty much you just need to make sure that Child drinks milk well, sleeps well.
Keeping a good routine is the key to the success. To have the baby keep the routine, you and your wife need to follow the routine. You need to wake up on time, seep on time and eat on time. Gone are the days of watching movies, partying or reading books till 2 am.
Ask questions. If you see anything which you don’t understand ask. Make use of the nurse line which your insurance company probably has it. Even if there is a slightest chance that your child is sick, take him/her to the doctor. Always safe than sorry.
First couple of months just spend time watching him/her grow. Stimulate him/her with various sounds. One day you might catch his/her first smile.
